That's happened a bunch of times for me, too.  The consistency of the cans are very different, too - sometimes very soft and sometimes really hard.

If you bought them at a local store, take them back.  Most pet stores are very willing to allow returns for any reason......

WellPet guarantees our satisfaction with their products.....from a Wellness Complete label:
QuoteWe ensure your complete satisfaction. Please save the unused portion and packaging and return it to the place of purchase for a full refund or exchange.

I think that is one of the conditions retailers must accept to become a Wellness dealer.

I've returned 2 large quantities (several 24-can cases, one batch to an independent store, the other to PetSmart.....and, neither blinked an eye, much less asked "Why?").

You could ask/confirm at Customer Service 800 225-0904.

I stopped feeding fish years ago....increased risk of Hyper-T, etc......catbird , you're probably aware of all that, but, if you need info, post back.

Andy,
I found the info you were looking for about the codes for Wellness.  I don't know how valid it is since it is from a few years ago.  At the top of this thread there is a Search box.  Type "plant codes" in that box and click Search.  It will take you to a whole page of discussion about Wellness plant codes.  Hope this helps.
OMG.....it's only been (almost) a year since you posted that......I wasn't ignoring you, I just never received the new post notification ! Thank you !!! Late or not, it's useful and I appreciate it.

Mandycat,
The store has a policy of not accepting returns without a receipt. Since I did not expect to have to return the cat food, I did not save the receipt.

ANDYcat, I've been around long enough to be well aware of the supposed dangers of feeding fishy cat foods. However, I wish to remind you that Phantom is 20 years old and has mild CRI. She was a rescue who came to me eating only dry food. For many years, she would not eat wet food at all. I consider the risks of feeding her a totally dry diet at her age far worse than the supposed risk of fishy wet foods, which are the only wet foods she will eat.

I did not post to ask for advice or be lectured about my food choices. I merely posted my experience, which is what these threads are supposed to be about.

I'd go back to the store, buy a case of October, then use that receipt to return the December.  ;)

Yep, I've done what NedF has suggested!

I've seen the same inconsistencies with canned Wellness Core Indoor.  I'm lucky that there are several stores near me to shop at, so when I see a new date batch I try 2-3 before getting a whole case.  I only buy from the big-box stores now because I got "attitude" from the locally owned shops.  One owner actually said to me upon trying to return a case of refused food "What have we done to our pets?!"  Excuuuuse Me???  More like What have the manufacturers done!!  The big-box stores have no problem with returns/exchanges.  I would much rather give the local stores my business but oh well.
