Oooh, ouch!  Like bug said, some cold water might help the sting.  Good luck at the vet, please come back and tell us how she is.
I once asked a four year old what the secret of life was.  "Feed the kitties," she said, "Feed the kitties."--Ellis Felker

Thank you both, Bug and Fizzy! She isn't being very tolerant of me handling her paw, but I will give it a try!

She does indeed have a UTI. The vet said she saw a lot of bacteria, and that there were some few struvite crystals but that she wasn't concerned about those being the cause, since there were very few and it was an overnight sample. She's on Clavamox antibiotic now. I'm taking a tip from you folks and following up the foul-tasting medicine with a syringe of water. She seems to appreciate it!

So, all is as well as it can be now. I just hope that nothing else happens! She's actually starting to get used to the vet's office! ;)

Poor baby ! I'm glad you caught the UTI before it got worse ! A little triple antibiotic cream with pain killer might help her paw, but you would need to make sure she doesn't lick it. If she will sit on your lap being petted you could apply it & wipe it off when she wants down.

I'm sorry that Nostalgia has a nasty UTI.  Hopefully the Clavamox will take care of it quickly.  Hope her paw gets better soon, too.  Did the vet tell you to do anything for the paw?  Poor baby!  That must hurt!

Poor Nostalgia!  I hope she feels better soon.

Lesliek, you gave me an idea! The vet suggested the same thing you did but said that otherwise, it's just a matter of waiting for the skin to toughen up. (She also said that she'd have prescribed an antibiotic for the feet even if she hadn't had a UTI, so I'm a little glad they happened at the same time!) Nostalgia is very, very upset and it's getting hard to restrain her, so I didn't want something that I'd have to hold her long to apply. I picked up some spray-on antibacterial painkilling stuff and tested it in the store to make sure it would dry quickly. Though she struggled in my arms a lot, she hasn't gone crazy licking her feet like she does with the ointment. So far I'd call it a success! She's still in an awful lot of pain, and it shows, but hopefully this will help take the edge off. Poor baby. Her other paws are hurt too, though not as badly as the first one - her other front paw might peel, and she cut + burned a few toes. Poor darling. I wish there was more I could do for her, but I know wrapping her feet would drive her mad. :(

Meowli

Poor little thing, sending prayers that the pain subsides and the antibiotics work quickly.

Poor little sweetie kitty!  I'm so sorry this happened to her.  I hope it heals up fast.

I'm just reading this.  How awful for your little girl!
I know it's a holiday weekend, but perhaps the vet could prescribe something for the pain -- Fentanyl patch or buporphrenol, or something.  I'd at least ask about pain management.

Oh my gosh, poor girl!  That must smart like nothing!  I hope she'll be feeling better very soon.  Ow ow ow!

Oh my goodness - poor girl. I agree with Spartycats that some kind of pain medication would likely keep her more comfortable now and to help her heal more quickly. I know that cats are very good about hiding pain, which means that she is likely suffering more than she's letting on. I know that a trip to the ER vet can be stressful and expensive, but I really think it would be a good idea to consider.

Sending healing thoughts for Nostalgia.

Poor baby, yeow that must be very painful. For humans who burn easily from being out in the sun (I have used this and it works) 2 parts lukewarm water with one part vinegar and apply to the burned/stinging area with a cloth or clean gauze and it will take the sting out so maybe this would work for her paw too?

Your blessings be more,
And nothing but happiness

I just realized that it's just about the one year anniversary of her adoption! What a present for her. :P

JJ, thank you for the tip. I will give that a try, but she is almost completely intolerant of me handling her right now. She knows that I come bearing the icky medications. I can give her the antibiotic by myself, but anything involving her feet is a two-person job. I will try, though! Just a few weeks ago my own feet were completely raw, and having to walk on them all day every day was terrible. A good soak would have been just the ticket.

I don't want to leave her in pain but there isn't much I can do right now. I literally cannot afford the emergency vet - they have a minimum charge of $100 and it skyrockets from there. I'm planning to give my regular vet a call on Tuesday and consult with her, but until then... I feel terrible and selfish for saying no just because of money, but it can't be helped. Nostalgia is staying off her feet and getting pampered as much as she can stand. Or, well, she's mostly staying off her feet. Right now she's chasing a moth. ;) Thank you all so much for your concern! I will pass on well-wishes and snuggles to Nostalgia.

lesliek

Hopefully since she has already been seen , your vet will prescribe a pain med by phone for you. It will also make her sleepy & help keep her off her feet.
