Prayers that both of you are ok! I would use alcohol for myself  then some first aid antibiotic cream. Hydrogen peroxide is also good to have on hand for  general followup wound cleaning.

I always use perioxide on my scratches, Ranger, keeps them from itching so badly.

I  hope Sammy is ok, and that his and Mia's appetites pick up again.  Could be they sense a storm coming?  We're stuck in a low pressure system here but it's moving south, slowly, so I don't think it's headed your way.

Watkins Petro-Carbo First Aid Salve  is also a very good product to have on hand  for wound care - it really heals and prevents infection. It has been a staple in my family for generations. It can't be found in stores, you will have to order it online or find a local Watkins dealer. But there is nothing better to keep infection from wounds caused by animals.  I don't know if it can be used on cats because they will eat it, but for human use it is excellent.

Ranger -- I work in an animal rescue so I have lots of bites and scratches.  I wash them with soap and water and then use hydrogen peroxide many times.  So far, I've been lucky.  Nothing has become infected.  I swear by hydrogen peroxide.  Good luck -- hope you and Sammy will be ok.

Ranger, Did I miss it, did you already say......  What did you own vet tell you??  surely he/she would be able to tell you want to do, and a vet visit might not be more than the stupid poison control, which didn't give you any good info for the money anyway.

Thank you everyone for thinking of us, I'm now pretty sure Sammy didn't eat any of that crap just clawed it.  Much as dislike spending the money it would have been worse if I hadn't called and something happened to him.

I need to get some stuff for myself with this kid, I always had peroxide but I heard somewhere it wasn't recommended anymore.

I have a Sammy poop question I noticed it was tough and black inside (I think it's fur not blood) anyone seen that?

Cats they are expensive aren't they? ::)

I'll keep an eye on my arm.

Thanks again, I don't believe everything I read on the internet but I do trust you guys which is why I posted here.

Judy,
You can clean a wound with peroxide, but it is not recommended to keep using it on the wound as it heals because it actually can delay healing.  It disrupts the new tissue that is trying to form to heal the wound.  Better to use just some kind of antibiotic cream.  I recommended cream and not ointment because ointment can actually seal out air and cause infection.  The cream type absorbs, but doesn't keep the wound from healing.  I use Neosporin Antibiotic Cream.

Cats' stools can be many colors and sometimes the color changes are due to the type of food they eat.  If there is a lot of hair, it could be darker inside if he has dark colored hair.  You would want to question it more if the stool were black and tarry, not necessarily just because it was black or dark colored.  Hair in the stool can make the stool dry and hard.  You can give some hairball remedy once or twice a week if it seems to be getting too hard, and be sure he is getting enough wet food and/or water to prevent constipation.
