The strangest thing just happened. My dog, Shiloh, just swallowed the strangest thing. My daughter was putting the barbaque sauce on the chicken she was grilling. Remember, i'm not the greatest cook- but she came in with the chicken and what I would call a brush baster? It's a small plastic [silicone] brush with a handle. The brush part fell on the floor and Shiloh ate it. the whole brush part. I thought when she said no- that She has dropped the chicken. but it was the whole brush. I have never seen Him eat anything like that, ever. i guess He thought it was the chicken, too. Now what? And some of You must know what it's called? Shiloh is a big dog, but this thing is weired. And I wonder if the silicone will hurt him? He's an older dog now.

The silicone shouldn't hurt him. How big was the brush part? It it's really big it could cause a blockage but most likely he'll probably poop it out tomorrow. You'll have to check poopies. Lucky you!

Trudy,
Did Shiloh just swallow the brush part, or the whole handle as well?  If it's just the brush and it's fairly small I would think it would just eventually pass in the stool before doing much damage.  I'm no expert of course and I would keep a close eye on him and bring him to the vet at the first sign of discomfort or anything odd.  Maybe call the vet first thing in the morning just to safe if nothing else happens tonight.

Trudy- If it was just the brush & not the handle it should come through fine. The handle would probably be a problem though. Time to check through the poo.

Trudy, I know exactly what you're talking about -- a silicone pastry brush.

I found a similar scenario online -- answered by a vet:

My little babies, you'll always be in my heart. Mom will see you later. Look after each other, ok?

How big is Shiloh ? If the brush is the 1-2" I really think it will come through ok. Although soft,I don't think silicone will desolve in the stomach so you need to be checking for it for the next few days. If you don't find it in 3 days, you probably will need an xray.

Trudy, how is Shiloh doing?  Any chance it has passed yet?  Let us know how things are going.

How is Shiloh? Did brush make its exit yet?
May your troubles be less,
Your blessings be more,
