Myths about tracking someone on their ISP number:  Tracking an ISP number is easy, it's called a GEO Lookup.  I use GEO lookups on the websites I develop for my clients all the time.  It simply displays the ISP number, which is the service provider you have your email address or domain name through.  It is NOT your email address or name.  To track the actual user of the ISP involves a lot of time and effort and is only used for high level crimes such as child porn rings, drug trafficking, murder, etc.  The request to track the individual using the ISP has to come through a subpoena by the chief of police, FBI or Justice Department.  ISP's typically only store data for a few days, making it even more difficult.  Law enforcement has to contact the ISP, set up an investigation called data preservation, and then monitor the individual's Internet usage.

I know there was an ex-poster here that claimed she could track an ISP to someone's name, and I say B.S.  Unless that person is in a high level of law enforcement and even then it would be done illegally without the basis of a crime.   Of course then there are always the hackers out there....

Found this interesting so I did some searches and stuff. Best I can do is to identify my ip address, but I can not even locate city on myself info let alone name. If you have someones email you can trace that down again to IP but not name or location.

pretty much like you said, can only get IP info, after that it is up to the ISP to give that info out to whichever law enforcement agency requests it.

I used to think that anyone doing anything weird was weird. I suddenly realized that anyone doing anything weird wasn't weird at all and it was the people saying they were weird that were weird.

Exactly.....and only an "e-sociopath" would claim that she can.

Nabiya,
It happened to me on another forum. That person claimed they could send killers to my house.  I got spammed to death and had to change my e-mail addy.

There are services that will trace your email from you IP, but that is as far as they go. Can't send killers to your house, can't even find your name. (although sending killers here would be a real mistake, dogs would eat them).

sorry you had to change your email, there are some real assholes out there

Yeah that was all they could do - spam me to death. Gave my e-mail to every illegal med company.

Couldn't find my house.

However folks, you need to be illegal enough for the cops to get a warrant.  And disagreeing with someone's opinion is not enough.

And on a lighter note......... :D

The Idiot was out walking her puppy and amazingly she had the nice warm coat on that I gave to Molly.

A bit later, another person with a cute dog came along and started to talk to the Idiot.  Hand waving and gesticulating went on for about 10 minutes.....sometimes I wish I had x-ray hearing......

Half an hour later my phone rang and the voice said," I need your help. Can we talk....can you come over at 3?"

Stay tuned for further developments.........................I am soooooo bad, I know  ;D

Nabiya

With any luck, Peg, she'll be asking you for help finding a new home for Molly.....

MarySmith

Hopefully she will realize her mistakes and be open-mined enough to correct them.

Hope to hear she was asking for help. Or help to find a better home for Molly. Also hope you were able to be patient with her,she sounds like a real pain !
"the world's most inept extortionist"

Apparently, she got blasted by the other dog walker........see? It wasn't just me....She was yelled at because Molly has not had all her vaccines.  She was yelled at because she was using her foot to move Molly along.......

Anyway, the 3 of us went out back to start some basic training.  Molly was a little tough to get to pay attention cause she was doing that whole cute little tush and tail wiggle........for me  ;D   ;D   ;D   ;D

She is such a smart little girl and so very eager to please.

I go back later for the next outdoor backyard adventure.............

It is just a matter of time and the use of her warm snuugy coat and this little girl will be even more of a gem...............

MarySmith

Let's just hope that Molly's mom will be 'trained' soon.
MarySmith

mainecoonpeg

Mary that will be the tough part.
Training Molly is a piece of cake.

The hardest part for me will be training her Mom  ;)

this is where the whip and chains come in handy, or I could visit her in the middle of the night and scare the poo poo out of her ;D

db, A middle of the night visit would be most welcome.  But please, let me know ahead of time so I can be there to see the reaction.  The whip and chains would probably result in a different type of response.....

One night during the summer we were yapping (as most women do) outside and she said, "OOH, look at the birds flying around.  I didn't know they flew at night."

When I calmly told her they were relatives of yours, she ran screaming into the house.  She ran right through the wood screen door.....without opening it.

Took me awhile to catch my breath and get up off the ground.
She "didn't want them tangled up in her hair".............. ;D
