db,

just be glad Lakota is not a cat, esp with the healling area on his face you would never be able to pill him.  Topaz ate a string one time off her fishing pull and had to have exploratory surgery because she wouldn't vomit it up.  So they cut her from stem to stern and sent her home to me a day or 2 later after her fever went away and she ate after being given some valium for me to pill for another I think 5 to 7 days.  Well i attempted one time and there was no way i was getting anything in her without ripping all her stitches out.  So the vet gave me liquid that I finally figure out to put in tuna juice, it was the only thing that would trick her.

Doesn't like bananas, right now baloney is working, not sure for how long though ;D ;D

He has refused raw meat with a pill in it, turns away from peanut butter with pills in it, It is like he knows there is a pill in there and he just isn't going to take it ;D

Very stubborn dog, pretty much like all LGD's they have their own head.

Yesterday he tolerated them trying to stick the needle in his leg for a couple of minutes, then he had enough. And that is that, then he sat which means to me he isn't going to tolerate anymore fooling around.

Like my wife says you can't make them do anything, we have to trick them into things, and if they don't want to they just aren't going to do it.

Not the breed for everyone, really independent and stubborn, we have learned that we have to out stubborn them ;D

I used to think that anyone doing anything weird was weird. I suddenly realized that anyone doing anything weird wasn't weird at all and it was the people saying they were weird that were weird.

Trudy

Did you try some cheese? I can't remember if You did or not. I put a pill into a big, or little ball of cheese. Try it.

trudy

Cheese, meat, peanut butter, butter, yogurt, tuna and I don't remember what else.

Right now baloney is working but that won't last for 2 weeks, sometimes thin cut ham, he is a real pill at times. ;D ;D

He has been sleeping all morning and now into the afternoon, I check on him every 30 minutes or so. He hasn't pooped since the operation so waiting for that next.

Prayers still coming your way.

Trudy

Well, there's always gross people food. Like canned hash, something like that. Some of cats like the pill pockets, and i really didn't think they would.

lesliek

db- My Fragile will do that.Refuse the food or chew around the pill & spit it out. The only 3 things that work for her are a chunk of velveeta cheese [really sticks to the pill] or a meatball or piece of hot dog.

db,

I am sure you know that being put under binds them up at least it does cats, Topaz also did not have a bowel movement for 15 days when she had her back trauma??????????????  The vet was concerned at first but then decided as long as she wasn't straining to let nature take its course, he figured no active from being confined to a crate, along with eating less and the trauma of the whole event she had a reason to not go.  I finally gave her a little canned pumpkin and that did the trick.

dingbat

Well he is getting some pro-biotics, took his pills with lots of baloney,(yuchh), did spit one out.

Must follow procedure with him, I wasn't quick enough with the second pill.

First: give dog small piece of baloney
Second: give dog pill wrapped in baloney
Third: (the most important part) IMMEDIATELY give dog follow up piece of baloney to get the pill down.

sheesh

missed the follow up on the second pill ;D

Incision looks OK, little red, still swollen, looks OK for the second day. He has been sleeping most of the day, drinks lots of water, which is good. Hasn't pooped yet, and yes I know the drugs will back them up. I will see if we have some pumpkin, although he probably won't eat it, UNLESS it has some baloney in it ;D

db,

your play by play of pilling Lakota is a riot.

I didn't think Topaz would touch the pumpkin either ICK
but I mixed it with her canned salmon and looked grossy and smelled worse and she liked it clean, and let me tell you Topaz is a snoop.  LOL

Nothing to loose by trying makes ure it is plain old canned pumpkin though not pie mix stuff.

Well have some pictures of his highness relaxing on the couch

First picture is before the surgery
Second is him giving me the evil eye look, "why are you pointing that thing at me??"
Third is after surgery, the incision about 4 inches long.

What a brave doggie, I would be mad too if someone had to do that to my face.

kaffe

awww... poor sweetie!  But still looking mighty magnificent for a dog that has just gone through surgery!

I luv your pill-protocol Db!
