So I took my foster cat to the vet today and the vet say she will try to do bloodwork and cut his nails but sometimes they need to put them under to do that. The poor guy was scared she wrapped him in a towel and took him downstairs. After a while a tech came and got the crate. I went down and the vet walked by and I asked if he had a chip. She said they didn't scan for one but if he needed one they would have to knock him out. She flashes her wrist and say they had to muzzle him. Really.

I am shocked of this attitude and vets that seem to be afraid of cats. He has been here for about five weeks and is a good boy except when scared.

Wow.  Can you take him to another vet?  Or does the shelter require this one?  I can't believe they resort to anesthesia so quickly!  I would be very uncomfortable with this attitude, as you are.

Well if I adopt him he would be going to my vet but yes this is the vet the shelter uses.

I would also be uncomfortable with how quickly they want to put him under , but if they do a lot of work for the shelter it may explain it . They may treat many ferals & strays who don't react well & either attack them or get so upset its dangerous .
