Trudy I can't add to the good advice you've already gotten, but I send hopes and wishes for Jesse to feel better.

Trudy- I have both books & can send you the recipes, or if you want to send me your address I will send the books. Its helpful to read them, not just the recipes. They aren't new though & current thinking is NOT to limit protein for kidney disease just watch phosphorous. If his kidneys are too far impaired nothing will help, but if not you need to get him eating. It doesn't matter what right now, he needs to eat. Then when he is eating you can check Tanya' site for ph levels in food or start cooking or serving raw. If there is anything that's Jesse's favorite I would try that after syringing. He may surprise you and start eating again. I do think you may need a 2nd opinion or a new vet. Or print out some info about the newer dietary needs for kidney patient cats for your vet.

I know you all don't have much time today.
but I just fed Jessie and threw up all over. he looks terrible. just wants to stay in his box all curled up.
I live way out in the boondocks. nothing around. don't have many choices for a vet. his kidney levels have stayed the same when on the K/D. thats all i know., but they aren't good. I just can't stand this. and he was doing fine until a couple of weeks ago. I am praying it's not cancer, but now i have to wonder.
Yes, i will take any receipes, because he needs to eat now. I don't know if he can hold it down?
I am just going to have a very bad day worring about him.
but I thank you all so very much.

Trudy-pm me your email & I will send you some this morning. I would try some canned or baby food thinned with broth in a syringe though to get him started. Do you have anything for his nausea ? If it continues I would take him back in tomorrow, you don't want to wait if its uremic poisoning from his kidneys shutting down. That is very painful.

Just try to get something into him, even liquids for right now. Hopefully he is just weak & will improve with syringing.

So sorry to read that Jessie is ill. Try not to worry so much, but I know that its easier said than done when your kitty is sick. I would take him back to the vet tomorrow just to see if you can get something that will make him more comfortable.

Sending more prayers from here.... Come on sweetheart, try again to eat.

I second the vet visit for tomorrow. I do remember my first kidney cat (Zorro) years ago threw up more when he needed to be given fluids. And, we did have some type of anti nausea pills for him, too, that did help some.

Lots of times kidney cats have a lot of stomach acid. The first thing CJ's vet did when she was diagnosed with kidney failure was to put her on pepcid/zantac. We found that the zantac works better for her - 1/4 of a tablet. I put it in a gelcap and give it to her before eating morning and night.

I agree that a vet appointment tomorrow is a good idea. Syringe feeding also might be helpful. Are you giving him fluids at all? It's not all that hard to do, so maybe that would help Jessie feel better.

It's so very hard to see them feeling so bad and not know what to do. Try to be as calm as you can be because he will pick up on your upset and that's not good for either of you.

Keeping you both in my prayers, Trudy.

Extra hopes and prayers for you and Jesse going out, Trudy.

Thank you everyone.
Yesterday was just horrible. I had to go to dinner at my nieces house, and all i did was think of Jessie.
The vets are all out of town until mon. I found out yesterday.
anyway, Leslie and I were writing back and forth. She told me a few things I could try.
so, I did buy some baby food on the way home. he really liked it. he ate 2 jars from last night until this morning and kept them down. He is already on meds. for the ulcer.
So, she told me he needs more than baby food. so, i have been mixing, a little at a time, the baby food in with his food.
So far, it is working. he felt much better today. even got up for a while and ran around. I will keep mixing for a while and then see if he will eat his own food.
So far, so good. Thank you all.
I guess I will have to take this one day at a time.

Oh, thank goodness!  I hope he's on the road to recovery.

Trudy, how is Jessie doing?  Let us know when you get a chance.

Trudy, the consistency of the food might be what's irritating his stomach if he can handle baby food mixed with his food. Turn his food into the consistency of baby food by watering it down a bit, mixing it good and scraping it through a wire mesh strainer. See if that helps. Oh, make sure the food is room temp, too.
My little babies, you'll always be in my heart. Mom will see you later. Look after each other, ok?

trudy1

Hi all,
Sorry to take so long to get back to you. I was afraid to say he's getting better, and then have something happen.
But anyway, Jessie is getting better. I first gave him the baby food to get him to start eating. then the A/D. then put them together and he ate them. then slowly I added his K/D to the mix. He ate that. then I started to put more of his K/D in the food. he ate that. so this morning I gave him just the K/D. he are some of it. so i will still mix a little for him, but put in mostly the K/D.
He hasen't thrown up, and he's on his meds. for the ulcer.
so I am so happy. And I want to thank you all for the help and support you gave to me. not everyone understands how hard this is.but you all do. Bless you all.
I don't know what i'd do if you weren't there for me.
Jessie says - thanks too.
