catbird, thanks for asking about Ms. Sophers.  She did recover from the limp finally.  She finally got her twee back but only a few days ago.  We brought the twee back out after she had her yearly teef cleaning appt and check-up....we felt sort of guilty so figured it would at least make us feel better about it all.  The minute she saw it she took a flying leap and scaled it to the top.  I could have sworn I could see her smiling.   :D

Her appointment went alright, the gingivitis on her lower teefs has improved but she still has it on her upper back teefies.  Of course the instructions are to do a better job with trying to keep them cleaned.  Tell that to Sophs.  The bad news was she has hit the 3 lb weight loss mark.  I dont know what that works out to be as a percentage of her total body weight, how does one calculate that?  At about 1 year old, her peak weight was 12 lbs 4 oz, she is now at 9 lbs 4 oz.  Ugh. It sucks.  Her general labwork came back semi-ok except she is still running below average WBC.  Her coronavirus titer was back up very high at 1:25600.  Everything else was normal.   :-\

:D.  It sounds like she's feeling quite spry, at least?  I can only imagine what sorts of noises would come out of Ms. Gypsy if I offered to brush any of her teefies for her.  :o

Sophers is rather interesting, to say the least.  She will allow me to brush her teefs but then later I get payback.  She never forgets what you might have done to her earlier in the day...even though we might have forgotten.  She will get cranky or feisty in the evening and DH says whats up with that?  I say....uh I brushed her teefs this morning.   :D

It is worrying about the weight loss - 3lb off 12 1/4 is almost 25%.  At least you know she's in good enough form to remember and give payback.
And at least you can do the teefs - My 3 are all just impossible, I gave up long ago - payback with them is instant - i.e. claws & teeth in me if I even try.

Ah, thanks for that info, JoMax, its close to what I was thinking.  Ugh.  You know how they say that if you start them out brushing their teefs when they are kittens, they will get used to it and make it easier?  Well, its a myth.   ;D  We started out when Sophs was a kitten because she had gingivitis at even just 12 weeks old.  So far, 6 yrs later, its not one bit easier.   ;)

i'm glad that Sophers feels well enough to fly around and jump.  She just loves that tree!!! Sorry about the weight loss and virus count, though.

catbird

Glad to hear she's feeling better. And happy that she has her tree again! (I swear if I took mine away from Phantom, she would try to sit on the ceiling fan!) Do you think that the gum/teeth issues could be contributing to the weight loss somehow?

catbird, the vet doesnt think so, she thinks that its part of whatever is causing the WBC's to be lower than normal, most likely some virus activity especially to have gingivitis as a kitten.  Ive watched her and she eats normally, and when I brush she doesnt act like it hurts.  She eats pretty well but sleeps alot.  Sometimes she goes off her food but not very often, thankfully.

That's great to hear that Sophers was happy to get her twee back!   :)   I think it's amazing that you're able to brush her teef at all.  Congratulations that her lower ones are doing much better!

You need to do better on her upper back ones?  Oh gosh.   :P

So strange about her weight.  She looks to be a good size from her photos.

August, she is all fur.  She is very, very long and we can feel her ribs some.  She has no pooch to her tummy at all.  But Sophs is a tough girl and is hanging in there pretty well for her issues that began as a kitten.

Such a worry, this mysterious girl.  We are all so fond of her, Sandi.
I know food she likes has always been hard to find.  Can you increase the number of meals?

Spartycats, yes! she is most definately mysterious.  We keep her bowls filled, both wet and dry, so that she has food available all day (of course making sure it doesnt get old).  She just has never had a huge appetite.

And Spartycats, thank you, me and Sophs are pretty darn fond of you all as well.   :-*

Hi Sandi!  Thanks for the update on our favorite calendar girl :)  She must be so happy to have her tree back.

This describes how Bucky always was!  :D  Long long body, all fur, hardly any weight at all.

I'm glad Sophers limp is better, Sandi!
Eventually they will understand,
Replied the glorious cat
For I will whisper into their hearts
That I am always with them
I just am....forever and ever and ever.
